ZBD-04, also known as Type 04 IFV, is a Chinese tracked infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) in service with the People's Liberation Army Ground Force.

ZBD-04 infantry fighting vehicle was designed in the 1990s and entered serial production starting with 1997.

It was adopted into service by the Chinese Army in 1999.

With the industrial designation WZ502, there are three variants of this Chinese infantry fighting vehicle: ZBD-04, ZBD-04A and the AFT-10 anti-tank missile carrier.

The ZBD-04 variant has a mass of 20 t (22 short tons; 20 long tons), while the ZBD-04A is heavier, with a weight of 24 t (26 short tons; 24 long tons).

Type 04 IFV (ZBD-04) has a length of 7.2 m (23 ft 7 in), a width of 3.2 m (10 ft 6 in), and a height of 2.5 m (8 ft 2 in).

It has a crew of three (3) and can carry seven (7) passengers.

The hull of the ZBD-04 is made of welded steel, while the ZBD-04A variant also has applique armour.

ZBD-04 (Type 04 IFV) has great firepower, using a 100 mm rifled gun or a 30 mm autocannon as the main armament.

As secondary armament, ZBD-04 infantry fighting vehicle is fitted with a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun and can be equipped with four (4) HJ-8 anti-tank missiles.

ZBD-04 IFV is powered by a 670 hp diesel engine.

It uses a torsion bar suspension and has an operational range of 500 km (310 mi).

The maximum speed of the standard ZBD-04 variant is 65 km/h (40 mph) on-road and 20 km/h (12 mph; 11 kn) in water.

The improved and heavier ZBD-04A IFV can reach a maximum speed of 75 km/h (47 mph) on-road and 6 to 8 km/h (3.7-5.0 mph; 3.2-4.3 kn) in water.

The People's Liberation Army Ground Force has in active service 400 ZBD-04 and 500 ZBD-04A infantry fighting vehicles.
