Bionix infantry fighting vehicle

Bionix is a tracked infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) designed and manufactured by ST Kinetics of Singapore.

The development of the vehicle started in 1988 and in 1996 Bionix IFV entered serial production. A year later, in 1997 the fighting vehicle entered service with the army of Singapore.

With a combat weight of 23 tonnes, Bionix measures 5.9 m (19 ft 4 in) in length, 2.7 m (8 ft 10 in) in width and 2.6 m (8 ft 6 in) in height.

It has a crew of three (3), consisting of the commander, the gunner and the driver and it can transport up to seven (7) soldiers.

The Bionix infantry fighting vehicle uses MEXAS-M type armor.

The main armament varies depending on the variant. The Bionix 25 is fitted with a 25 mm M242 Bushmaster cannon while Bionix II is equiped with a 30 mm Mk44 Bushmaster II cannon.

As secondary armament, Bionix is equiped with three machine guns: a 7.62×51 mm NATO coaxial machine gun, a second 7.62×51 mm NATO coaxial machine gun for the commander, and a third 7.62×51 mm NATO side mounted general purpose machine gun for the trooper compartment.

Bionix IFV is powered by a 475 hp (354 kW) Detroit Diesel 6V 92TA engine with a maximum power of 550 hp (410 kW) in turbocharged mode. It has a power-to-weight ratio of 20 hp/tonne.

Bionix uses a hydropneumatic suspension and has an operational range of 400 km (250 mi) being capable to reach a maximum speed of 70 km/h (43 mph).
