DefTech AV8 Gempita (Thunder) is an 8x8 wheeled amphibious armoured personnel carrier (APC) developed by DefTech of Malaysia in cooperation with FNSS of Turkey.

DefTech AV8 8x8 APC is similar in appearance with the FNSS PARS 8x8.

The AV8 Gempita armoured combat vehicle (ACV) was designed by DefTech and FNSS Defence Systems.

In service with the Malaysian Army since 2014, a total of 257 DefTech AV8 armoured personnel carriers have been produced so far.

DefTech AV8 ACV has a mass ranging from 28 to 30 tonnes (± 28,000 - 30,000 kg), has a length of 8 m, a width of 2.7 m without the side armour and a height of 2.17 m.

The crew consists of three members, and it can accomodate up to eleven soldiers.

DefTech AV8 has a hull made of composite aluminium and steel armour.

The front and the sides of the hull has add-on armour, and, overall, DefTech AV8 offers a level or protection of up to STANAG 4569 Level 4.

The AV8 8x8 armoured vehicle is equiped either with a Denel LCT30 turret with a 30 mm cannon or with a Sharpshooter Turret with a 25 mm cannon.

As secondary armament, it uses a 7.62 mm FN Herstal MAG 58M coaxial machine gun and, on the LCT30 turret, four (4) ZT3 Ingwe anti-tank missiles.

The Malaysian DefTech AV8 Gempita combat vehicle is powered by a 550 hp Deutz diesel engine and has a power-to-weight ratio between 18.3 HP/ton and 19.6 HP/ton.

Gempita 8x8 uses an independent air suspension system and has an operational range of 700 km (430 mi).

It is an amphibious armoured personnel carrier capable to move in water at a speed of 6 km/h. On roads it can reach a maximum speed of 100 km/h.
