Gremyashchiy class corvette (Project 20385)

Gremyashchiy class (Russian designation Project 20385) is a Guided missile corvette built for the Russian Navy.

Gremyashchiy is an update of the Steregushchiy-class corvette (Russian designation Project 20380).

Designed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau in Saint Petersburg, the Gremyashchiy class units are built by the Severnaya Verf in Saint Petersburg and by the Komsomolsk Shipyard.

A total of six Gremyashchiy corvettes will be built for the Russian Navy.

Gremyashchiy class covettes are preceded by Steregushchiy class corveetes and succeeded by the Project 20386 corvettes.

Gremyashchiy-class corvettes displacement and dimensions

Gremyashchiy is a guided missile corvette with a displacement of 2,500 tons.

It measures 106.0 m (347.8 ft) in length, has a beam of 13 m (42.7 ft) and a draught of 5 m (16.4 ft).

Propulsion of the Gremyashchiy-class corvettes

Gremyashchiy corvettes use a 2 shaft CODAD-type propulsion system, having four Kolomna 16D49 diesel engines generating 23,664 hp (17.6 MW).

Additionally, they have four diesel generators, each generating 630 kW, with a total installed power of 2,520 kW.

Gremyashchiy class corvette can reach a maximum speed of 27 knots (50 km/h; 31 mph).

It has a maximum range of 4,000 nautical miles (7,400 km; 4,600 mi) when navigating at a constant speed of 14 knots (26 km/h; 16 mph).

Sensors and processing systems installed on Gremyashchiy corvettes

Gremyashchiy corvettes use a Zaslon multi-purpose AESA naval radar mast/system as the main air search radar.

It is also equipped with a surface search radar and with the 5P-10 Puma fire control radar for the 100 mm A-190 artillery cannon.

For anti-submarine warfare, Gremyashchiy has two sonars, a Zarya-M bow mounted sonar and a secondary Vinyetka low frequency active/passive towed array sonar.

Electronic warfare & decoys installed on Gremyashchiy corvettes

Gremyashchiy is fitted with the TK-25-5 electronic warfare (EW) suite and with four PK-10 countermeasures.

Armament of the Gremyashchiy class corvettes

Gremyashchiy is fitted with the 100 mm A-190 Arsenal as main naval gun complemented by two 14.5 mm MTPU pedestal machine guns.

Two AK-630M CIWS are also installed onboard.

Gremyashchiy is a well armed corvette having a UKSK 8-cell vertical launch system (VLS) forKalibr, Oniks, Medvedka or Zircon anti-ship and cruise missiles.

It also has a 2 × 8-cells VLS for Redut missiles, the naval variant of the S-350E Vityaz 50R6 air defence system.

Gremyashchiy has two Paket-NK 324 mm quad torpedo tubes for anti-submarine warfare.

Gremyashchiy has a helipad and a hangar for operating aboard a Kamov Ka-27 helicopter.
