Volodymyr Velykyi class, officially designated as Project 58250 is a class of Ukrainian designed corvettes planned to be built for the Ukrainian Navy.

Ukraine plans to built four of these warships at its Black Sea Shipyard located in the city of Mykolaiv.

Volodymyr Velykyi class corvettes displacement and dimensions

Volodymyr Velykyi is a corvette with a displacement between 2,500 and 2,650 tonnes.

It has a length between 100 and 112 m (328.1 to 367.5 ft), a beam of 13.50 m (44.3 ft) and a draught of 3.50 m (11.5 ft).

Speed and range of the Volodymyr Velykyi class corvettes

Volodymyr Velykyi would be able to reach a maximum speed of 30 knots (56 km/h) and a range of 4,000 miles at a constant speed of 14 knots.

Complement of Volodymyr Velykyi corvettes

Volodymyr Velykyi corvettes will have a complement of 110 persons.

Sensors and processing systems of the Volodymyr Velykyi corvettes

Volodymyr Velykyi corvette will be equipped with both a long-range 3D radar and a medium range 3D radar.

Among other sensors and processing systems planned to be installed on the future Ukrainian ships are:

- Battle management system (CMS)
- Long range radar for RWC
- Radar AF control system
- the Sarmat optoelectronic system
- Undercutting GAS and GAS with long drawn antenna

Volodymyr Velykyi corvettes will be fitted with RTO and EW system.

Armament of the Volodymyr Velykyi corvettes

The future Volodymyr Velykyi corvette will be equipped either with Ukrainian made armament or mainly with French weapons.

The cannons equipping the Volodymyr Velykyi will be a 76/62 OTO Melara (SR) main naval gun and one dual 35 mm Oerlikon Millennium cannon.

For naval warfare, the future Ukrainian corvettes will be fitted with two 4-cell Neptune anti-ship missile launchers.

There is also the possibility that instead of Neptune missiles, the ships might be fitted with Exocet MM40 Block 3 anti-ship missiles.

For aerial warfare Volodymyr Velykyi will have a either 16-cell vertical launch system (VLS) for Dnipro interceptors, either a 16-cell VLS for Aster 15 interceptors.

The anti-submarine capability will be provided by two cvadruple 324 mm torpedo tubes fitted with MU90 torpedoes.

Aircraft facilities of the Volodymyr Velykyi corvettes

Volodymyr Velykyi corvettes will have a hangar and a helipad to operate one medium helicopter.

Possible variants taken into consideration are NH90 NFH, Ka-27PL and Lynx HAS.8 helicopters.

The fate of the Volodymyr Velykyi class corvettes is uncertain

Black Sea Shipyard begin the construction of the first ship of the class, the 01701 Volodymyr Velykyi back in 2011, but the ship was never completed to date.

The fate of the Volodymyr Velykyi class corvettes remains uncertain since Ukraine announce the purchase of four Turkish-designed Ada class-corvettes that will be locally-built in an Ukrainian shipyard.
